Journal quiltsI am a member of the Contemporary Quilt Group of the Quilters Guild of Great Britain. A challenge is set each year to produce a small quilt, one a month. As you will see from the pages for the years in which I have taken part, the size is always set by the organisers; then additional elements are stipulated, such as colour, shape or embellishment. In my view it is a great idea, as it forces one to attempt a piece which perhaps might take the maker outside a comfort zone. And they are small enough to make so that mistakes really do not matter in terms of time and materials. Of course, there is no such thing as a mistake - it's a learning experience!
Journal quilts are often displayed as a group of pieces at national exhibitions where they attract much interest and positive comments. And, of course, the visiting public get to speak with some of the invigilating makers. I had a two year break from participating in the challenge but have rejoined for 2021 my theme being Lockdown. I hope you enjoy looking at my journal quilts in the pages for each year. |
